Coordinator – South Coast Conservation Land Management Program
Position Details: Full-Time, Five-Year Term position with opportunity for further extensions
Salary: $65,100 – $81,400, based on a 35-hour work week. Salary for this position will be commensurate with each individual’s education and/or experience as it relates to the position.

Who We Are
The South Coast Conservation Land Management Program (SCCLMP) is a formal partnership between Ducks Unlimited Canada (DUC); the Nature Trust of British Columbia; the Province of BC’s Ministry of Water, Land and Resource Stewardship (WLRS); and the Canadian Wildlife Service of Environment and Climate Change Canada. The primary purpose of SCCLMP is to conserve and manage over 37,000 hectares of provincially designated conservation lands throughout the BC South Coast Region for the benefit of regionally to internationally significant fish and wildlife species, including species and ecosystems at risk.

What You Will Do
The SCCLMP Coordinator, who will report to the South Coast Region Ecosystems Section Head of WLRS, will help WLRS and other SCCLMP partners manage a diverse portfolio of conservation lands. The position requires an enthusiastic individual who is passionate about the environment and who has strong organizational skills and rising leadership qualities to coordinate land management activities for multiple organizations across a varied landscape. The successful candidate will plan and implement activities on behalf of the SCCLMP partners, address land management issues, secure additional grant funding, contribute to overall SCCLMP planning and prioritization, and communicate with a diversity of other partners and people including Indigenous Nations, local governments and stewardship groups, and members of the public.
This position is unique and exciting because you will gain experience working with two of the leading conservation organizations in BC as well as the provincial and the federal governments. Based in the Lower Mainland, this position will lead an ongoing partnership between these parties, with the goal of fostering a collaborative approach to maximize the values and utility of conservation lands for fish & wildlife habitat, including species and ecosystems at risk.
Responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:
- Managing operations, maintenance, and land management activities, including:
- supervising and coordinating seasonal work crews;
- facility inspections;
- maintenance and repair of infrastructure;
- vegetation and invasive plant control;
- trail maintenance; and
- signage installation and maintenance.
- Leading ongoing restoration and monitoring projects and prioritize and implement new projects.
- Reviewing conservation land management plans to prioritize for update and oversee plan updates.
- Liaising with WLRS and partners on land management issues, including trespass and applications to use lands designated under the Wildlife Act and Land Act.
- Identifying opportunities for habitat restoration, wildlife inventory and monitoring, and species at risk recovery options.
- Developing funding proposals in collaboration with partners to implement restoration, inventory, and monitoring actions identified above.
Requirements
- A Bachelor’s degree specializing in the conservation or management of fish, wildlife, or ecosystems with a minimum of five (5) years’ experience in conservation, or equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Proven ability to establish and maintain working relationships with internal and external staff and partners.
- Strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills.
- Proficient writer, with an ability to convey complex technical information in plain language.
- Membership or Eligibility for Membership in the College of Applied Biologists.
- Experience with data management and proficiency using Microsoft Office programs such as Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Valid BC Class 5 Driver’s License.
- Must have a passion for conservation and the outdoors.
Preferences
- Currently living in the BC South Coast, with knowledge of the local flora and fauna throughout the Coastal Western Hemlock and Coastal Douglas Fir Biogeoclimatic Zones.
- Experience writing funding proposals and successfully completing projects.
- Experience completing vegetation management and light construction projects.
- Strong understanding of the diversity of habitats found on the BC South Coast (e.g., wetlands, forests) or with agricultural programs.
- Familiarity with the non-profit and/or environmental conservation sectors.
