Manager, Plant Health Laboratory
$86,200.00 – $122,100.01 annually
The Plant and Animal Health Branch supports the sustainability of plant and animal agriculture, while serving to protect the well-being of the people of British Columbia through surveillance, regulatory compliance, risk assessment and the development of strategies to address identified risks.
The Manager, Plant Health Laboratory, is part of the Plant Health Unit which is responsible for protecting B.C.’s agricultural resources from the adverse impacts of plant pests and diseases. They will work to optimize Laboratory operations, including diagnostics, quality assurance and alignment with the ISO/IEC 17025 scope of accreditation, and supervision of staff to align with standard operating procedures.

Qualifications for this role include:
- Minimum Master of Science degree in plant pathology or a related field from a recognized university.
- Experience in diagnosing plant diseases.
- Experience in the supervision and management of laboratory sections and operations in a diagnostic laboratory. This includes procurement of equipment and supplies, hiring of staff and liaising with other labs within the organization.
- Experience developing and evaluating employee performance, coaching, team building and mentoring.
- Experience leading staff on projects or program delivery within laboratory sections.
Preference may be given to applicants with one (1) or more of the following:
- Registered, or eligible for registration, as a Professional Agrologist with the British Columbia Institute of Agrologists or another Canadian Institute.
- Experience in an accredited (ISO/IEC 17025) diagnostic laboratory or equivalent.
- Experience with leading or participating in Biosafety and Quality Management programs.
