BC’s protected areas system is a public trust with exceptional opportunities for conservation, outdoor recreation, education, scientific study and social interactions. The protected areas system includes ecological reserves, provincial parks, conservancies, recreation areas and protected areas. BC Parks manages over 14 million hectares, or over 14%, of Crown land within the protected areas system. BC Parks is the Crown land manager and statutory decision maker for all lands within the protected areas system. Many BC parks and protected areas are within proximity to urban and rural development and, therefore, concerns exist regarding wildfire resiliency planning and prevention. BC Parks wildfire resiliency planning and prevention must align with the preservation of park values and ensure consistency with BC Parks’ strong conservation principles and associated policy and planning processes.
The Land and Resource Coordinator works in diverse teams, gathers and manages complex natural resource data, completes analysis and develops options, provides advice to statutory decision-makers, facilitates and coordinates projects and engages directly with a wide variety of stakeholders to support land/resource management decisions and resolve complex stewardship issues. The Land and Resource Coordinator supports the six BC Parks Regions across the province and the Regional Operations Branch in wildfire prevention, planning, prescribed fire, and at times, wildfire recovery.
