ROLE SUMMARY
The Nature Trust of New Brunswick is seeking a Communications Coordinator to play a pivotal role in advancing our conservation mission, creating content that informs, inspires, and mobilizes New Brunswickers for nature protection.
Working closely with the Communications Manager, you’ll implement our strategic communications plan across a variety of platforms. Your responsibilities will include crafting compelling narratives around our conservation projects, designing informative and visually-appealing materials, and enhancing our outreach to communities across New Brunswick. Through traditional and digital mediums, you will help convey the impact of our work on preserving biodiversity, protecting habitats, and fostering a connection between people and nature.
The ideal candidate will have a keen eye for design and a talent for writing engaging content. You’ll use your skills in graphic design, content creation, and social media management to develop materials that effectively communicate our mission and vision. Additionally, your bilingual capabilities will be vital in ensuring our message resonates with English- and French-speaking communities.
This role requires a blend of creativity, strategic thinking, and passion for environmental conservation. You’ll need to juggle multiple projects, from developing social media campaigns to updating our website and producing multimedia content about our nature preserves and the people who make them possible. Your work will directly support our efforts to engage the community, attract volunteers, and encourage donations, making a tangible impact on our conservation outcomes.
Duties and Responsibilities
The Communications Coordinator will undertake a diverse range of tasks designed to elevate the Nature Trust of New Brunswick’s profile and engage our community more deeply in our mission. Key responsibilities include:
· Preserve Documentation: Visit nature preserves to document their beauty and biodiversity through photography and videography, creating compelling promotional content that invites the public to explore and appreciate these protected areas.
· Visual Content Creation: Leverage Adobe Creative Cloud (InDesign, Photoshop) and tools like Canva to produce bilingual graphic materials, including booklets, posters, brochures, social media graphics, and signage for nature preserves, that align with our brand and conservation goals.
· Storytelling and Profile Writing: Craft compelling stories and profiles that highlight the contributions of land donors, volunteers, and stewards, as well as feature articles on conservation projects.
· Email Campaigns: Collaborate on the design and content creation for monthly email updates, engaging our members and supporters with the latest news and opportunities to get involved, in both official languages.
· Social Media Management: Generate and post engaging bilingual content across multiple social media platforms, capturing the essence of our work and fostering a dynamic online community of supporters.
· Strategic Communications Planning: Contribute to the development and execution of a bilingual strategic communications and marketing plan aimed at broadening public engagement and awareness around the importance of land conservation and biodiversity.
· Event Support: Provide communications support for summer events, workshops, or webinars, including content preparation and live updates to maximize reach and participation.
· Website Maintenance: Play a key role in the ongoing development of our bilingual website, from content updates and blog posts to enhancing user experience, ensuring it serves as an effective tool for education and engagement.
· Promotional and Educational Materials: Create a suite of branded promotional materials and multimedia presentations that entice and educate viewers, encouraging visits to nature preserves and greater interaction with our conservation efforts.
· Media Communication: Craft and distribute media advisories and press releases in both English and French to announce conservation milestones, projects, and events, maximizing our visibility and impact in newsworthy activities.
Qualifications, Skills & Experience
· An undergraduate degree in a relevant field is required, such as Journalism, Communications, Public Relations, Leadership, Environmental Studies, Event Planning, Graphic Design, or equivalent work experience;
· Proficient with Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite, and Canva;
· Experience with graphic design and video editing;
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
· Experience drafting and publishing social media content for an organization;
· Excellent organizational and time management skills, able to prioritize multiple projects and requests;
· Team player who works well with others and can develop and maintain positive partnerships;
· Independent, creative, and self-motivated;
· Strong interest in the environmental conservation field; shared vision with the Nature Trust of New Brunswick;
· Experience with public speaking, group facilitation an asset;
· Photography and videography skills are an asset;
· Working knowledge of Salesforce and/or previous experience with CRM software is an asset;
· Bilingualism (English and French) is required
Work Environment

The Communications Coordinator can expect a fast-paced work environment with the need to juggle several projects at once. The work is desktop-based with periodic visits to nature preserves, donors, and others as required.
Start Date: May 1st, 2024 (flexible)
Length: Full time, salaried (37.5 hrs/week)
Wage: Starting at $40,000-$45,000 annually plus benefits (depending on experience and qualifications)
