Who Are We?

The Upper Thames River Conservation Authority’s (UTRCA) mission statement is Inspiring a Healthy Environment. The 17 municipalities within the Upper Thames River watershed appoint representatives to the UTRCA’s Board of Directors who represent the local urban and rural communities, deciding policies and programs that will lead to a healthy watershed. Our programs and services focus on five key areas:

The Upper Thames River watershed encompasses an area of 3,421 square kilometers and is mainly rural but includes the urban centres of London, Stratford, and Woodstock. The UTRCA serves a total population of approximately 539,500 residents.

UTRCA Conservation Areas provide outdoor recreational opportunities that aim to educate and promote conservation messages to a large audience in an effort to improve the watershed’s natural environment

Summary

The Engineering Coordinator, Water and Erosion Control Structures is responsible for ensuring that the operation and maintenance of the UTRCA’s and Municipal Agreement Water and Erosion Control Structures (WECS) is undertaken to protect life and property while promoting a healthy watershed ecosystem. This includes overseeing the planning, project management, execution, safety and completion of the capital maintenance projects for the WECS which are undertaken in conjunction with the 20 Year Flood Control Capital Maintenance Plan.  The position is also responsible for coordinating the WECS team’s efforts on routine operation and preventative maintenance of the structures.

This position is also responsible to operate the UTRCAs Flood Forecasting and Warning System and to provide technical support to other functions within the Water & Information Management Unit and the UTRCA.

Education

• A Diploma or Degree from an accredited post-secondary institution in Engineering or Engineering technology specializing in Civil or Water Resources or an equivalent combination of education and varied Engineering experience.
• Membership, in good standing, with the Professional Engineers of Ontario or Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians / Technologists is required.
• A valid Ontario Driver’s Licence (G2 or G class) is required.

Experience, Knowledge and Skills

• Five (5) years of practical experience in water resources, infrastructure project management, or a related field including, but not limited to computer modelling of hydrologic and hydraulic systems, construction techniques, project management and report preparation.
• Ability and desire to manage challenging situation and bring innovative solutions to problems.
• Desire and willingness to learn, develop and challenge oneself through the management of unique challenges and situations.
• Previous supervisory experience leading, mentoring and coaching a team.
• Excellent project management and time management skills.
• Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite, Teams, as well as other database and information management software.
• Strong skills to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with diverse stakeholder groups.

Compensation and Other Information

• Grade 9: $53.22 to $64.75 per hour;
• Full time, 35 hours per week;
• Comprehensive Group Benefits, Pension Plan (OMERS) and Vacation package;
• Free access to UTRCA Conservation Areas (Fanshawe, Pittock and Wildwood);
• This role is required to be on call from time to time, under flood or other emergency situations and respond to emergency calls (short notice) beyond regular business hours.
