First Nations Liaison for Species at Risk regional planning
The Georgian Bay Biosphere Reserve (GBBR) is a dynamic, community-based organization looking to fill the position of a First Nations Liaison to assist with the delivery of a Species at Risk Project for the Biosphere region. The candidate will be grounded in Anishinaabek teachings and understandings including governance/leadership awareness; able to adeptly and respectfully navigate relationship building between project partners and First Nation communities on the eastern coast of Georgian Bay to further the co-building of land and waters caretaking by all communities interested in the Biosphere Region.
This position is primarily related to the Community-Nominated Priority Places (CNPP) project funded through Environment Climate Change Canada to develop a community-focused effort to protect, conserve and steward Species at Risk (details provided below). A background in biology, ecology, or field experience is an asset. This project is a co-application led by GBBR with significant partnership with Magnetawan First Nation, Shawanaga First Nation, and the Georgian Bay Land Trust. Other key partners include Wasauksing First Nation, municipalities, Ontario Parks, Georgian Bay Islands National Park with an interest in expanding partnerships and communications to other Indigenous communities in the region.
