Manager of Provincial Operations British Columbia
Ducks Unlimited Canada (DUC), one of Canada’s leading conservation organizations, is looking for a strong leader for the Manager of Provincial Operations (MPO) position.
DUC’s team of 13 staff deliver projects all over British Columbia that provide habitat for ducks, wildlife and fish, and recreation areas for people. Our time-tested formula is simple, but effective. Conserve at-risk wetlands. Restore those that have been drained and damaged and manage the projects under our care. In addition, we’re studying the ecological value of our estuaries and the effects of climate change. Our programs are also evolving in response to a new International Conservation Plan (ICP) that assesses the needs for ducks across the continent.
Based in British Columbia and reporting to the Director of Regional Operations, the MPO is primarily responsible for ensuring that DUC’s orientations and vision are realized within his or her territory and ensuring that all activities are mission-oriented. The MPO will ensure the sound strategic and operational management of the organization, including the implementation of the provincial government relations, conservation, communication/outreach, science and education programs and revenue generation. This includes adaptation to direction in the ICP. Development and management of annual financial plans are a critical job element.
Responsibilities also include maintaining key relationships within DUC and in the public and private sectors, enhancing the organization’s outreach by taking on a strategic and influential role, being aware of issues that may have an impact on the region, and being present and proactive in the community.
In addition, you are responsible for liaising with regional and national staff, as well as with provincial directors and volunteers. You will collaborate with regional teams in the development of strategic initiatives and deliver their programs as part of a set of annual objectives. MPOs are members of the regional management team that is responsible for bringing together its processes.
You are a true leader with visionary qualities who consistently delivers quality results in a complex, changing environment. You are an innovator, with a strong ability to promote the organization, strong communication skills and a desire to continuously improve your operations.
Goal-oriented and self-motivated, you are able to see the big picture, how all business lines come together and how DUC’s mission is linked to society.

- Strong negotiation and relationship-building skills.
