How you will contribute as part of the TRCA team:
The Coordinator’s role is to facilitate the planning and implementation of community engagement activities and programs with municipal and community partners in the Region of Peel. Specific activities include community tree and wildflower plantings, clean up events, leading nature hikes and hosting homeowner workshops that focus on native plant gardening, rain barrels, rain gardens and stormwater landscaping projects. The Coordinator will work with the Peel team to meet the needs of the program. Evening and weekend work are a function of the job as required. Occupational Health and Safety is a major responsibility of this position.
Major Responsibilities:
- In coordination with partners, plan and deliver community engagement programs in Brampton, Mississauga and Caledon.
- Track the Toronto or Peel program expenditures within a fixed annual budget. Record all project accomplishments and prepare reports as required.
- Work with staff to plan and deliver community engagement programs and presentations to families, youth groups, seniors and community groups in the Region of Peel.
- Develop and implement public engagement opportunities at community hubs including Albion Hills Field Centre in Caledon.
- Prepare text for marketing materials and manage distribution.
- Track program results and communicate regularly with Supervisor, Manager and team.
- Consult with TRCA staff teams including Education Training & Outreach, Watershed Management, Restoration Services, Conservation Land
- Planning and Marketing and Communications in order to strategically plan and implement community events.
- Other duties as assigned.
What you will need to succeed:
- 4-year post-secondary education in environmental science, biology or related discipline;
- 3 – 5 years’ experience coordinating and delivering community-based programs and events;
- Experience working with different levels of government, community groups, faith groups, schools and community volunteers;
- Excellent project management and communication skills including time management, budget tracking, work plans, writing, presenting and engaging with social media;
- Extensive experience developing and leading nature interpretation activities in the outdoors;
- Experience supporting, mentoring and providing leadership to staff and/ volunteers,
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment;
- Demonstrated knowledge of environmental issues;
- A proven track record of successful implementation of environmental projects and events;
- Strong problem solving, collaborative and facilitation skills;
- Valid Ontario Driver’s License (G), daily access to a personal vehicle and the ability to travel;
- Standard first aid certification is required.
- Successful clearance of the Vulnerable Sector Screening is required
