Hours: 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, Monday-Friday (flexible) 37.5 hours per week

You will be a crucial member of the team maintaining beautiful Windfields estate. Windfields is a designated heritage property. It features eight buildings, two woodlots, hedgerows and gardens, and more than 200 specimen trees.
The Arborist is responsible for employing best practices for arboreal care of specimen trees, orchards, woodlots, hedges and shrubs. This position offers a diverse range of hands-on responsibilities.
Responsibilities:
- Inspect specimen trees, orchard, hedges and shrubs for insects, disease and overall health and take appropriate action
- Apply fertilizer to the specimen trees, orchard trees, hedges and shrubs as needed
- Prune deadwood and suckers from specimen trees
- Update the CFC’s Woodlot Management Plan, including; endangered species protection, hazard tree monitoring, understory clean-up, native species introduction and invasive species management
- Maintain the arboreal tools and equipment
- Update the CFC’s Landscape and Garden Report, and online landscape maps, documenting the specimen trees (photos, text and drawings)
- Assist the Horticulturalist, as required with major projects; and
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- Enrolled in or completed an Arboreal, Landscape Architecture, Environmental
- Design or related program at the post-secondary level
- Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job, including: bending, lifting, utilizing hand tools and working in various weather conditions
- Chainsaw licence is an asset
- Plant poison licence is an asset
