The Upper Thames River Conservation Authority is currently accepting resumes for the short-term contract position of Community Education Specialist. This position will be up to 12 months in length.
Responsibilities
1. Develop, implement and evaluate age appropriate, curriculum-based environmental education programs as well as community involvement opportunities designed to create environmental awareness, appreciation and inspire action to improve the health of the Thames watershed.
2. Under the direction of the Community Education Supervisor, liaise between the school boards, the broader community and the Authority, by linking board-wide initiatives, school-based initiatives and community needs and interests and by educating the community as to the Authority’s role and the need for a healthy watershed in conjunction with internal mission centres.
3. Develop, implement, promote and evaluate community awareness and environmental education programs and opportunities including participation of volunteers in Citizen Science projects.
4. Partner with Community Partnership staff and other mission centres to promote and educate stakeholders about the work of the UTRCA (e.g. community forestry, bioengineering, river safety, etc.)
5. Support UTRCA public involvement efforts including promoting, organizing and facilitating stakeholder participation in Authority programs.
Qualifications
Education, (degree, diploma, certificates, licenses)
· A degree from a recognized university in geography, biology, environmental science or resource management is required.
· A valid Ontario Teaching Certificate is required.
· A satisfactory police records and vulnerable sector check is required.
· Current Ontario Drivers’ License is required.
Experience
· A minimum of one years’ experience in a related resource management, communications or teaching role.
Skills, Knowledge and Ability
· Demonstrated understanding of the educational system and familiarity with the stakeholders of the UTRCA.
· A strong natural history knowledge base.
· Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills required.
· Ability to work well as a member of a team.
· Excellent organizational skills and ability to work with limited supervision an asset.
Compensation and Other Information
$34.43 to $41.89 per hour, plus 6% vacation pay
Full time hours – 35 hours per week
Start Date: as soon as possible
As per UTRCA’s COVID-19 Vaccination Policy, all UTRCA employees are required to be fully vaccinated. As a condition of hire, successful candidates will be required to show proof of vaccination prior to their start date unless medically exempt or otherwise exempt under the Ontario Human Rights Code.
