HAT’s Executive Director, Katie Blake, will be resigning in June of 2023 (Announcement). We are now seeking a new dynamic and motivated individual to lead Habitat Acquisition Trust’s operations, administration and sustainable growth. The Executive Director will: be the face of the organization; be committed to conservation; implement the Board of Directors’ strategic direction for the organization; build, and maintain relationships for the organization; and manage all aspects of HAT’s day-to-day operations.
The successful candidate will be a strong communicator and experienced with managing staff, managing finances, and working with a variety of partners and interest groups. Additional important attributes are strong leadership skills, a commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion, to reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples, to continuous learning and a passion for conservation.

About Habitat Acquisition Trust
Habitat Acquisition Trust (HAT) is a Victoria-based land trust working with our community to protect, conserve, and steward habitats within the Capital Regional District (CRD). HAT operates in the traditional and unceded territories of the lək?ʷəŋən, W̱SÁNEĆ, SC’IȺNEW, and T’Sou-ke Nations, and we recognize that our work is intrinsically linked to Indigenous stewardship of these territories, both past and ongoing. Our mission is to conserve natural spaces on southern Vancouver Island and the southern Gulf Islands through, legal protection of private land, restoration, education, and stewardship programs. HAT focuses on building partnerships to accomplish our mission. Position Overview
The Executive Director (ED) is the face of the organization and manages HAT’s assets and reputation. The ED drives the strategic direction of the organization and is responsible for HAT’s day-to-day operations including: developing and establishing work plans and programs; fundraising; providing leadership and direction to staff; monitoring and evaluating programs and activities to ensure alignment with strategic goals; managing and reporting on financial activity; and acting to ensure compliance with all legal, statutory and policy requirements. The ED will report to the Board of Directors (Board) on a regular basis.
Position Deliverables/Accountabilities
• Represents HAT to partners, donors and residents of the CRD.
• Ensures the Board is provided with timely, accurate and comprehensive information to facilitate decision-making in matters of policy, strategic planning and governance, including recommendations on process when appropriate.
• Assists the Board in the development of strategic plans by providing staffing projections, funding targets, project themes and information on challenges and opportunities.
• Serves as the fundraiser-in-chief of the organization by, setting a fundraising strategy and working with staff, the Board and volunteers to identify prospects and secure donations.
• Ensures the effective implementation of Board direction in a manner consistent with the values and ethics of the organization.
• Attends all Board meetings and prepares briefing packages with financial reports for these meetings.
• Provides leadership and direction to staff, encouraging collaborative relationships with partners, supporters, contractors and volunteers.
• Manages staff personnel processes and procedures including recruitment and selection, training and development, compensation and benefits, corrective discipline, performance evaluations and terminations.
• Ensures that staff have the information, training, tools, and support to fulfill their respective roles safely and effectively.
• Coordinates the acquisition, management and effective utilization of physical and financial resources for the achievement of strategic goals and plans, including office space and related
equipment, administrative and financial management processes and technology, and field-related resources. • Ensures secure, accurate and comprehensive files and records are maintained to mitigate risk and support planning.
• Acts as the Privacy Officer and takes appropriate measures to mitigate risk associated with the protection of personal and/or proprietary information.
• Provides leadership for community outreach initiatives designed to encourage investment and engagement through grants, donations, and other forms of community support.
• Promotes collaborative partnerships and relationships with other stewardship agencies, organizations, Indigenous communities and various types and levels of government.
• Develops and maintains effective relationships with the media, business and community leaders.

Qualification Criteria
Required:
• Strong interest in land conservation and HAT’s mission.
• Post-secondary accreditation in an applicable field of study, or significant relevant experience, preferably in a non-profit environment.
• Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal skills, including an ability to interact and consult with individuals at all levels within HAT and across the broader community.
• Demonstrated skill in fundraising, community outreach and communications.
• Management experience, preferably in the non- profit sector.
• Demonstrated ability in project planning, development, evaluation, and management.
• Demonstrated experience in financial/budget management and reporting.
• Committed to diversity, equity and inclusion in HAT’s staff, Board, and community.
• Leads and manages with a growth mindset, open to learning and adapting.
• Keen understanding of the ability to listen, meet people where they are and engage in meaningful dialogue with stakeholders.
• Willing and able to work irregular hours including some evenings and weekends.
Preferred:
• Knowledge of private land protection tools, such as conservation covenants, land acquisition, the Ecological Gifts Program, and BC Land Title Act tools.
• Demonstrated experience working with Indigenous Nations, Indigenous-led organizations, and/or Indigenous communities or individuals, particularly those located within the CRD.
• Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle.
