Lake Stewardship Technical Assistant

We are currently seeking individuals with exceptional interpersonal skills to participate in our Blue Canoe Program, and various other stewardship initiatives, to promote shoreline naturalization and increase awareness of water quality, aquatic habitat and ecosystem integrity. The successful candidates will enjoy the opportunity of working outdoors, having regular contact with landowners and the general public through landowner visits, presentations, workshops, and field work pertaining to naturalization techniques. Evening and weekend work will be required. The successful candidates will be experienced canoeists with Ontario Recreational Canoeing and Kayaking Association (ORCKA) certification (or the ability to obtain) and will demonstrate knowledge of shoreline and urban concerns and techniques such as naturalization, gardening, wells, septic systems, and urban storm water management.
To be successful in this position, your qualifications will include:
University or college education in areas such as ecosystem management, natural resource management, environmental science or biology
Familiarity with native vegetation identification and species site requirements
Exceptional communication skills and customer service skills
Ability to deal effectively and courteously with the public and volunteers
Ability to prepare reports and technical documents
Physically fit with the ability to carry moderately heavy items and work in typical field conditions, including rough terrain and inclement weather, when required
Valid M.T.O. driver’s license with a clean driving record required
Valid First Aid Certificate an asset
Provide own safety footwear and personal field work clothing
