BCIT’s Renewable Resources Department is seeking a temporary full time Assistant Instructor to assist in the delivery of a range of courses within the Forest and Natural Areas Management (FNAM) diploma program and others as the need requires.FNAM is a broad-based, current and practical two-year diploma program that is part of the Renewable Resources Department at BCIT that also includes the Fish, Wildlife and Recreation diploma program and the Ecological Restoration degree programs.
Duties & Responsibilities:
The FNAM program trains graduates for employment in a range of fields including industrial forestry, urban forestry, silviculture, arboriculture and natural resources management. Graduates are eligible for registration as Registered Forest Technologists (RFT) in British Columbia and have a number of available pathways to other levels of certification and education.

Minimum Qualifications:
The candidate we are seeking will have a combination of the following:
Diploma or higher in forestry, ecology, or related discipline.
At least 3 years of field or operational experience in areas such as forestry, arboriculture, silviculture, measurements, earth science, soils, or plant identification.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Demonstrated ability to work in a team, being flexible and adaptable to meet the needs and challenges of our dynamic and ever-developing programs.
Experience working with GPS and GIS equipment and software. Examples include: ESRI ArcGIS suite, Trimble Pathfinder Office, QGIS, Avenza, Road Eng, etc.
Valid Class 5 Driver’s License.
Ability to lift moderately heavy objects and climb ladders.
Preferred Qualifications:
A professional designation in forestry or related field is an asset. Examples include: R.P.Bio., R.P.F., R.F.T., P.Ag., I.S.A. Cert. Arborist, etc.
Demonstrated ability to teach or mentor effectively at the post-secondary or equivalent professional level in classroom, field, or online settings.
5 years or more of field or operational experience in forestry operations or mensuration would be an asset.
Valid Class 4 Driver’s License would be an asset.
Experience operating chainsaws and brush saws in field settings.
Experience in soil and ecosystem classification.
Experience working with LIDAR, aerial photos, and digital maps.
