Horticulturalist (2 positions available)
Type: Summer Contract
Hours: 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, Monday-Friday (Flexible) 37.5 hours per week
Compensation: $16-22.00/hour

You will be a crucial member of the team maintaining beautiful Windfields estate. Windfields is a designated heritage property. It features eight buildings, two woodlots, hedgerows and gardens, and more than 200 specimen trees.
The Horticulturalist is responsible for employing best practices in the care of the heritage gardens and the lawns. This position offers a diverse range of hands-on responsibilities.
Responsibilities:
· Inspect flowering shrubs, garden plants and turf for insects, disease and overall health and take appropriate action
· Plan, plant and maintain planters
· Transplant perennials and install soft landscaping
· Recommend replacement or removal of plants
· Weeding, mulching and raking
· Apply fertilizer as required
· Maintain the water feature
· Maintain the gardening tools and equipment
· Update the CFC’s Landscape and Garden Report, and online landscape maps, documenting the gardens (photos, text and drawings)
· Assist the Arborists, as required, with major projects; and
· Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements:
· Some experience planting and maintaining flower beds.
· Design or related program at the post-secondary level
· Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job including: bending, lifting, utilizing hand tools and working in various weather conditions
· Plant poison licence is an asset.
