Manager of Provincial Operations – AB
Ducks Unlimited Canada (DUC), one of Canada’s leading conservation organizations, is looking for a strong leader for the Manager of Provincial Operations (MPO) position.
DUC’s team of 42 staff deliver projects in Alberta that provide habitat for waterfowl, other wildlife and fish, and recreation areas for people. Our time-tested formula is simple but effective. Conserve at-risk wetlands. Restore those that have been damaged and manage the projects under our care. In addition, our conservation work provides ecological values to society Our programs are also evolving in response to DUC’s new International Conservation Plan (ICP) that assesses the needs of waterfowl across the entire continent.
Based in Edmonton and reporting to the Director of Regional Operations, the MPO is responsible for ensuring that Alberta’s conservation programs align with DUC’s vision and are mission-oriented. The MPO will ensure the sound strategic and operational management in the province including the planning and implementation of provincial government relations, conservation, communication/outreach, science and education programs and funding for programs. Programs align with the direction in the ICP. Development and management of annual financial plans are a critical job element as is the development of a diverse team of staff.
Responsibilities also include maintaining key relationships within DUC and in the public and private sectors, enhancing the organization’s outreach by taking on a strategic and influential role, being aware of issues that may have an impact on the DUC and being present and proactive in the community.
In addition, the MPO is responsible for liaising with regional and national DUC staff, as well as with provincial DUC directors and volunteers. The MPO collaborates with regional teams in the development of strategic initiatives and deliver their programs as part of a set of annual objectives and is member of the regional management team responsible for delivering on regional/national objectives.

Requirements
- An undergraduate degree with a strong focus on conservation and a background in an appropriate discipline.
- Strong financial/budgeting and project management skills.
- Solid experience leading a team of multi-disciplinary professionals.
- Experience in government relations and communications.
- Excellent leadership, organizational and interpersonal skills.
- Strong negotiation and relationship-building skills.
- Familiarity with the non-profit or environmental conservation sectors is an asset.
A minimum of eight years of experience in conservation program delivery, revenue generation and working with partners, along with a demonstrated ability to manage and motivate staff, make you the ideal candidate for this position.
