Manager of Boreal Operations
Position Details: Full-time, Permanent
Salary Range: Starting salary at $115,900. Salary for this position will commensurate with each individual’s education and/or experience as it relates to the position.
Location: Edmonton, AB or flexible/hybrid options within Western Canada.

What You Will Do
Reporting to the Director of Regional Operations (DRO), the Manager of Boreal Operations (MBO) will lead a team that advances wetland conservation in the Boreal region of Canada, supports Indigenous leadership in conservation, and supports the engagement of supporters, partners, donors and funders in the work of Ducks Unlimited Canada in the Boreal.
Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Building and growing programs to advance wetland conservation across the Canadian Boreal region.
- Guiding and supporting Indigenous-led conservation efforts that are in line with DUC’s mission throughout the Boreal region.
- Developing and maintaining key relationships with government, Indigenous partners, conservation, industry and community, as well as donors and funders.
- Seeking fee-for-service opportunities
- Influencing provincial, territorial and municipal policies and regulations that support DUC’s mission and habitat goals, in collaboration with other provincial, regional and national staff.
- Maintaining relationships and ensuring appropriate communications with members of DUC’s Board of Directors as well as key volunteer leaders.
- Overseeing professional development, recruitment and retention and performance management of staff.
- Ensuring DUC’s corporate policies, including Occupational Health & Safety, are adhered to, and efficiently implemented in the workplace.
Requirements
- An undergraduate degree with a strong focus on conservation, forestry or related natural resources discipline.
- At least eight years of experience in conservation program delivery, revenue generation and working with partners, along with a demonstrated ability to manage and motivate staff.
- Knowledge of Indigenous peoples and Indigenous history in Canada, particularly in relation to Indigenous Conservation.
- Experience in working with major donors and volunteer leaders.
- Experience working with Crown lands and Indigenous-owned lands.
- Strong financial/budgeting and project management skills.
- Experience with funding and proposal development.
