Term: May 2 – August 26, 2022
Hours: 37.5 hours/week, Monday – Friday, with potential for some weekend and evening work

Surrey’s Natural Areas Partnership (SNAP) is a unique partnership between three local non-profit organizations and the City of Surrey. SNAP’s goals are to restore and enhance Surrey’s urban forest; to promote environmental stewardship; and to empower youth as future leaders in environmental conservation. Position Description:
Lead and implement ecological restoration and enhancement projects in Surrey parks by removing invasive plants, maintaining planting sites, removing litter and refuse and providing shade tree maintenance. You will report to the SNAP Program Coordinator and supervise one or more team members in this field-based position. This position is primarily focussed on invasive plant removal.
Duties:
· Assist with the supervision, training and evaluation of team member(s)
· Ensure work is completed in a safe and efficient manner
· Maintain accurate daily records, track project deliverables and provide updates to supervisors
· Communicate with the public as an ambassador of SNAP and our partner organizations
· Other related duties as required
Desired Qualifications:
· Some post-secondary study in a related field such as urban forestry, geography, arboriculture or environmental studies
· Demonstrate willingness and ability to perform repetitive, physical work in all weather conditions
· Supervisory and/or leadership experience
· Strong time management and organizational skills
· Strong public relations, interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal)
· Ability to lift and carry up to 30lbs
· Knowledge of ecological principles, ability to identify local native and invasive plants and common shade trees
· Provide steel-toed boots
· Valid Class 5 BC driver’s licence (or equivalent) with a safe driving history, and willingness to submit a driver’s abstract
· Valid Level 1 First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain prior to the start of employment)
· Completion of a Police Information Check will be required as a condition of employment
· As a condition of pending Canada Summer Jobs program funding (note, these criteria are subject to change):
o be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment
o be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment
o have a valid Social Insurance Number and be legally entitled to work in Canada and BC
