Position Title: Crew Member: Ecological restoration specialist
Job Function: Labourer, Planter, Habitat restoration maintenance and steward
Job Type: Full-time until the end of the growing season (Approx Nov 15) then starts again mid-February
Start Date: Immediately
Reports To: The Crew Member will report to the Foreman and Project Manager.
Job Overview: The Crew Member will provide support for our ecological restoration team who are using plant material and soil bioengineering techniques to repair erosion and impact to strengthen, revegetate, and create habitat along riverbanks in Alberta.
Responsibilities and Duties:
Handling and installing erosion control materials
Prepping sites to be planted
Collecting and handling live stake plant material
Installing soil bioengineering elements
Participating in the safety program
Driving on the site to deliver materials as needed for job elements
Planting trees and shrubs
Activating maintenance and monitoring program
Working with solar irrigation for post-planting maintenance
Qualifications:
Minimum 2 years experience in landscaping, tree planting or forestry
High-quality plug planting skills
Experience using hand saws and pruning shears
Backcountry driving experience
Experienced with working outdoors in challenging weather
Experience working in small team-oriented crews
Has a passion for the outdoors and environmental stewardship
Has an interest and curiosity for horticulture and restoration
Physical abilities must include: heavy lifting, resilience to cold and wet conditions, athletic level fitness, can travel by foot for long distances over uneven terrain
Strong knowledge of irrigation system design
Willingness to work and travel alone
Expected production rates:
Plugs – 500/ day planted in eco-types
#1 Gal containers – 100+ / day
Live stakes – 125/ day – standard 1.2-1.5m length
Required Travel: Primary work is in Calgary, AB. Some work may be required within 4 hours of Calgary, AB.
Wage: Depending on experience $23.50/hr-$29.60

They have active projects in Calgary, Edmonton, Fort McMurray, Elkford, Beaverdell, and areas in southern Alberta. The LN team holds a variety of certifications to support their practice – Certified Ecological Restoration Practitioners, Professional Management Professional (PMP), Environmental Assessment & Restoration, MSc, Specialization Certificates in Ecological Restoration.
