Your Contribution to NRSI
NRSI is looking for a Wetland Ecologist/Botanist to join our growing team that has expertise in wetland assessments, plant identification and rare plant surveys in Alberta and/or Saskatchewan, and the ability to authenticate wetland reports. The successful applicant will be based out of our Calgary, Alberta office and will be expected to regularly contribute to both field- and office-based tasks. Field surveys will be completed primarily in Alberta and Saskatchewan.
Your Education:
· A degree in Biology or Environmental Sciences. Similar educational experience will also be considered.
Your Field Skills:
· Expertise delineating wetlands and conducting desktop and field wetland classifications, including detailed vegetation inventories and the assessment of soil characteristics.
· Excellent vegetation identification skills, including demonstrated experience leading rare vascular plant surveys and leading flora inventories in southern Alberta and Saskatchewan.
· Ability to travel for regular multi-day field surveys, sometimes in remote locations, under inclement weather, in a variety of environmental conditions, and occasionally for long hours.
· Ability to mentor junior staff on field monitoring techniques and data collection methods.
Additional Requirements:
· Professional Biologist status with the Alberta Society of Professional Biologists (ASPB).
· An Authenticating Professional for wetlands in good standing with the ASPB.
· Working knowledge of the Water Act and the Alberta Wetland Policy and associated directives.
· Experience coordinating complex field monitoring schedules and obtaining regulatory permits.
Assets:
· Project management expertise, including proposal and report writing, budget preparation/tracking, data management, entry and analysis and client and agency correspondence.
· Demonstrated knowledge of regulatory guidelines, monitoring protocols, and permitting requirements associated with development applications.
· Experience managing and mentoring a team of professionals.
· Experience and demonstrated success with business development activities and securing new work.
· Experience completing surveys for wildlife in Alberta and/or Saskatchewan.
Position Type: Full-time Permanent Position [approximately 40 hours per week, including travel].

Duration: Ongoing
Location: Field sites throughout Alberta and Saskatchewan. Office tasks based out of main office in Calgary, AB or flexibility to work remotely
Key Requirements: Valid driver’s license & personal vehicle, Standard First Aid and CPR certification
Salary: $40+ per hour (commensurate on experience)
