The Training Academy for Outdoor Professionals is an OBC initiative to address challenges for workers and employers in the outdoor industry related to high unemployment by providing training for aspiring outdoor instructors. Equally importantly, it will address barriers to access for marginalized populations to ensure Canada’s next generation of outdoor sector employees reflect Canada’s diversity.
THE ROLE
The Coordinator oversees Outward Bound Canada’s social media and content strategy. The role will grow awareness of Outward Bound Canada and the Training Academy as a leader in social and emotional development among youth-serving organizations through social media. The Social Media Coordinator role will primarily involve the creation and implementation of strategy, creating and editing written, video, and photo content, designing graphic assets for use on social and digital media platforms. They will be responsible for executing the strategies, conducting research to create informative and appealing content to grow and engage OBC’s audience, and providing high-quality customer service.

Starting Salary: $45,000-$50,000

OPPORTUNITY FOR IMPACT
- Develop and implement a results-driven social media and content strategy.
- Collaborate with program, curriculum, and risk management teams to ensure content accurately reflects OBC program and values.
- Support Training Academy Recruitment Manager to reach new, diverse audiences and increase enrollment in Academy programs.
- Create and curate engaging content to organic social channels that appeal to target audiences, amplify brand goals, and drive conversions.
- Create and manage paid social media ad campaigns.
- Listen and engage with target audiences, interact with users and respond to social media messages, inquiries, and comments, providing customer support.
- Monitor social media channels for industry trends.
- Maintain unified brand voice across different social media channels.
- Establish best practices for all social media channels and websites.
- For major campaigns or initiatives, work with graphic designers or external agencies to develop creative assets and ensure they meet requirements for various channels.
- Provide marketing support to other departments and special projects.
- Track results from social media initiatives/campaigns, create reports for key metrics, compile a monthly report on each channel.
- Maintain and update third-party platforms such as Google My Business and Our Kids.
- Update Outward Bound Canada websites, as required, and contribute to website blog posts.

REQUIREMENTS
● Self-starter, ability to work independently
● Creative thinker
● Experience creating social media content and managing accounts
● Good understanding and interest in social and digital media platforms and their best practices, including Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, and YouTube
● Excellent oral and written communicator; able to distill down complex ideas and convey them succinctly
● Attention to detail, excellent organization, and time management skills including keeping multiple projects on schedule
● Great analytical skills
● Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite or other design software
● Fully vaccinated against Covid-19
● Clear Vulnerable Sector check
● Understands how systems of oppression create barriers to outdoor recreation for underrepresented populations, familiarity with and ongoing efforts to learn inclusive language and cultural considerations
● Personal commitment to equity and inclusion in the outdoors
● High level of cross-cultural competence, in recognition, that Outward Bound Canada works with students and partners from a diversity of communities and backgrounds
● Passionate about the Outward Bound Canada mission, an interest in outdoor pursuits, and a desire to help get young people outdoors for transformative experiences
ASSETS
Experience with social media management and publishing platforms (Agorapulse, Hootsuite, SproutSocial, native tools)
Experience with paid social media campaign execution (Facebook Ads Manager, Linkedin Ads Manager, Youtube Ads Manager)
Working knowledge of WordPress
Previous experience as a student or instructor with Outward Bound Canada or similar programs
