Overview
The role of the Carpenter is to execute jobsite tasks in adherence with the Site Supervisor’s directives and the project schedule. The carpenter is expected to coordinate effectively with all members of the jobsite crew including subcontractors; support the Project Manager and other team members as needed (especially in the absence of an on-site Lead Carpenter); and provide guidance to Apprentice Carpenters as they work to develop their skills.
Responsibilities
Setting a positive example for the jobsite team by actively supporting everyone on the crew, regardless of skill level, and never openly criticizing other members of the project team
Submitting accurate timesheets on a weekly basis
Consistently arriving at the jobsite on time, working within daily start and stop times, and taking break and lunch with crew
Organizing the work day and work flow to minimize overtime
Taking initiative to solve project problems and maintain high standards, involving the Lead Carpenter only when needed
Keeping the jobsite stocked with required materials with three or fewer supplier trips per week
Supporting the Lead Carpenter in maintaining a clean and well-organized jobsite and ensuring personal, jobsite, and crew safety at all times
Ensuring good communication and prompt response to calls/texts/emails from the client and others on the project team
Submitting coded receipts to the Lead Carpenter in a reliable and timely fashion
Consistently demonstrating comprehension of the carpentry skills listed below and an ability to accomplish related tasks proficiently and with minimal supervision, backtracking, or re-work

Carpentry skills
Layout and execution of wall framing, floor framing, and all but the most complicated roof framing
Operation of all required tools safely and efficiently
Execution of all phases of exterior siding and trim
Execution of all phases of hardwood flooring interior trim installation
Application of roofing underlayments and finishes
Door and window installation and flashing procedures
Accurate sill layout
Roofing activities include valleys, edge and ridge cap, standing seam skills, and shingles
Troubleshooting all waterproofing, flashing, and underlayment scenarios
Hanging kitchen cabinets, including managing layout, leveling, troubleshooting, and room discrepancies
Cutting and installation of rough and finished stairs alongside a Lead Carpenter
Setup, usage, and safety monitoring of all ladder, scaffold, and harness equipment
Creation of basic to mid-level material lists for framing, sheathing, and trim
Ability to provide sequential instructions to Apprentices within company protocol
Physical ability requirements:
Work an 8 hour day of physical labour
Work inside and outside throughout the year
Ability to lift 50lb over a sustained period of time
Ability to safely carry out a full slate of physical demands throughout a work day of construction such as climbing ladders and scaffold, reaching and lifting overhead, shoveling
Skills/Requirements
5+ Years construction site experience, with skills in rough framing or finish carpentry, and has experience with renovations, custom new builds, and additions.
Knowledge of and experience in Green builds an asset
Working at Heights, Standard First Aid and WHMIS an asset
Own and supply a full complement of tools and equipment
Strong interest in working with a team to maintain a positive and safe working environment
Teamwork and interest in participating in a positive company culture
Maintain and enforce good construction standards and quality control
Access to a reliable Vehicle and G Class license with insurance
