Reporting to the Communications & Brand Manager, the Digital Communications Coordinator develops, delivers, and supports a variety of digital communications and public relations functions to ensure a strong, consistent Birds Canada message and brand. The Communications Coordinator will be fluently bilingual, speaking French as their first language.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Work with the Communications & Brand Manager to develop and implement a strategic communications plan.
This will include:
-Increasing engagement with the bird enthusiast community and recommending and creating content specific to audiences in French-speaking Canada, including social media content for French-only social media channels
– Reviewing analytics and providing recommendations to improve engagement, grow audiences, and implementing supporter conversion programs,
– Developing French content for blog and other website content, magazine articles and other publications
2. Administer national social media accounts, both French and English.
This will include:
– Developing a social media strategy
– Creating, sourcing, and publishing content
– Engaging with followers
– Monitoring and reporting metrics
– Creating and evaluating social media ad campaigns
– Coordinating with and supporting staff administering additional social media accounts
3. Support program staff in developing effective communications for their programs including content creating, coordinating and reviewing translations; translating short text e.g. social media, photo captions.
4. Support development team and fundraising efforts. Collaborate with entire Public Support team to align communications plan with development and fundraising goals
5. Support preparation of key fundraising communications products and fundraising campaigns
6. Help ensure appropriate recognition of donors, sponsors, and partners
7. Carry out other tasks as assigned by the Communications & Brand Manager.
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
The Communications Coordinator will be fluently bilingual, speaking French as their first language. The position requires excellent written and oral communications skills in both official languages, political acumen, social media management expertise, communications and editing experience, and a demonstrated ability to work as a team player. Birds Canada is not prescribing in what or how much relevant education and experience – please be sure to indicate in your cover letter how your unique mix of education and experience have prepared you for this role. Experience in brand management, public relations, marketing, media relations are strong assets. An interest in bird conservation is considered an asset.
