Civil Engineer/Engineer-in-Training
The Opportunity
Ducks Unlimited Canada (DUC), a leader in Canadian habitat conservation, is seeking Civil Engineers (or engineers-in-training) to lead the engineering teams in Alberta, Manitoba, and Ontario.
Responsibilities will include:
- Being accountable for the design, drafting, reporting, and contract/construction management of wetland conservation infrastructure projects, including earthworks and water conveyance structures.
- Supervising a team of engineering technologists, delivering inspections, surveys, plans and specifications to provincial and national standards.
- Contributing to team resource management, long-range planning, and budgeting with the provincial team.
- Providing engineering advice and guidance and assisting in the development of engineering standards and procedures.
- Performing field work, including construction inspections, as well as leading provincial Dam Safety efforts and contributing to Dam Safety Reviews.
- Mentoring, training and supervising new and existing staff.

Work-life balance is important to DUC. This position offers the flexibility of a hybrid workplace model, provides 3 weeks starting vacation, 1 week of personal days and 2 weeks of sick time per year. The salary range provided is based on a 35-hour work week.
Requirements
- A bachelor’s degree in civil engineering.
- P.Eng. designation or nearing completion of a P.Eng.
- Minimum five years’ experience in hydrologic, hydraulic, municipal, geotechnical, or structural engineering.
- Strong planning, reporting and project management skills.
- Strong attention to detail and time management skills.
- Strong interpersonal and supervision skills.
- Knowledge of engineering design, hydrology and construction involving heavy equipment.
- Awareness of provincial OH&S practices; knowledge of applicable provincial regulations and approval processes.
- Ability to work flexible hours and travel, as required.
- A valid class 5 driver’s license.
- Our COVID-19 Vaccination Passport policy will be suspended effective March 1, 2023. However, should the policy be reinstated, all successful candidates will be required to submit proof of vaccination.
Assets
- Residence near a DUC office considered an asset
- Experience with GPS, Office 365, AutoCAD, GIS, GeoStudio and HEC programs would be considered an asset.
- Experience in the design of dams or earthen berms, as well as dam safety, considered a strong asset.
- An affinity for the outdoors and conservation.
- Experience with contract and construction management.

Salary Range: $65,000 – $98,800
