Nature Network Organizer
Position Overview
Comprised of more than 155 member groups, the Nature Network is the backbone of Ontario Nature. The network is synergistic where Ontario Nature advocates at the provincial level, and member groups are local forces for conservation.
This job is perfect for you if you have a passion for engagement, grassroots organizing and coalition building. The Nature Network Organizer engages the grassroots Nature Network to be the voice for nature in Ontario. Through strategic engagement, the Organizer mobilizes the network to reach conservation, community-building and advocacy targets.
The successful candidate will join a team of 30 passionate staff members in a collaborative, impactful and fun work environment. Reporting to the Director of Communications and Engagement, the Organizer helps shape conservation at the local and provincial level.

Principal Responsibilities
Coordinate the Nature Network
- Liaise with member groups so everyone is informed and engaged to seize opportunities to collaborate
- Administer daily operations so the network runs smoothly
- Organize Regional Meetings and conference calls
- Collaborate with Board Regional Directors on orientation, recruitment and engagement
- Lead Nature Network engagement in Ontario Nature programs, events and initiatives
Enhance and support the Nature Network
- Encourage prospective groups to join and steward existing members
- Help secure funds through grants to increase network capacity through training and other opportunities
- Organize and facilitate training opportunities for Nature Network groups
- Enhance the profile of the Nature Network through the website, ON Nature magazine, newsletters and other communications vehicles
- Explore opportunities to diversify network composition and work with under-represented groups in alignment with Ontario Nature’s diversity and inclusion goals
- Identify and implement approaches to bring new people into our community and promote engagement with Nature Network groups and Ontario Nature at the local level
Organize and engage our community
- Integrate the Nature Network into Ontario Nature’s work, and community of members and supporters
- Engage and grow the network through strategic fundraising opportunities
- Fuel grassroots engagement by supporting and raising the profile of the local conservation work by Nature Network groups and their members
- Engage with Indigenous communities, BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, Peoples of Colour) and/or members of equity-seeking groups to enhance their voices in conservation
- Grow our email list, membership base and reach
Support advocacy campaigns
- Contribute to all phases of our campaigns to raise awareness and inspire action around priority conservation issues and activities
- Inspire member groups and their members to take action for nature
- Engage people in advocacy and other conservation activities through media relations, events and outreach
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in environmental studies, public relations or a related discipline
- At least three years of relevant work experience including advocacy and community engagement organizing
- Demonstrated ability to lead grassroots organizing and coalition building
- General knowledge of natural history and conservation issues in Ontario
- Strong writer capable of adapting copy for diverse audiences and across communications channels
- Excellent interpersonal skills and positive attitude
- Strong verbal communicator, presenter and facilitator
- Ability to effectively work both independently and collaboratively
- Highly organized and possessing sound judgement
- Excellent multi-tasking skills with the ability to plan, set priorities and meet deadlines
- Self-motivated and committed to conservation
- Valid G class driver’s licence

Desirable Assets
- Experience engaging with Indigenous communities, BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, Peoples of Colour) and/or members of equity-seeking groups
- Master’s degree in related field or relevant lived experience
- Background in environmental issues
Anticipated Start Date: February 28, 2022
Type of Position: Full time, permanent
Compensation: $44,000 – $55,000 per year
Location: This position is based at Ontario Nature’s Head Office – 720 Bathurst Street, Toronto

Working Conditions
Ability to travel and work on some weekends and evenings for regional meetings and conference calls. Lieu time will be accrued for this.
