Community Engagement Coordinator
The Riverwood Conservancy (TRC) is a volunteer- and member-based charity in Mississauga that provides programs to the community in nature and environmental education, natural areas stewardship / conservation and gardening.
In this career-focused practical experience, the Community Engagement Coordinator (CEC) provides services to the community, under the supervision of the Director of Development & Communications. The CEC learns and practices a range of community outreach and engagement methods in an non-profit setting, including call and email campaigns, social media, and interviews. The CEC increases awareness and conveys key messages from The Riverwood Conservancy to diverse audiences with messaging that focuses on TRC’s programs in environmental education, conservation, volunteering, special events, and gardening, as well as increasing awareness of this public site. The CEC expands our organization to include a cross-section of multi-cultural guests, youth, seniors, new Canadians and recent
immigrants, Indigenous community, ESL students, families including low-income ones and people with special needs.
Primary Position Responsibilities
· Support prospect identification and qualification, including internal (database) and external prospect research
· Engage new partners and constituents through email and call campaigns, social media and other outreach methods
· Monitor and report on key engagement metrics, including donor touchpoints, sign-ups,
· Evaluate success of activities and campaigns and provide recommendations for future iterations
· Working with program, development and communication staff, arrange and conduct participant, volunteer and donor interviews to support TRC communications & storytelling
· Research & recommend new approaches & best practices to create and foster relationships with new stakeholders: schools, volunteer groups, businesses, service clubs, faith groups, youth groups, families, older adults, special needs groups, and multicultural groups
· Provide leadership to volunteers supporting campaign activities
· Support other aspects of fundraising and development, including events and campaigns, as requested by the Director of Development
Other roles & responsibilities
· Support TRC social media channels and blog through writing, photography and design
· Source, create and edit compelling images for social media and blog posts;
· Support the growth of our digital community and email subscribers through engagement with relevant local digital communities & establishing connections with influencers
· Write and edit blog posts and web content;
· Support the development of on-site signage & public communication through our trail ambassador program
· Support outreach to potential volunteer groups, including secondary school students, Mississauga businesses, service clubs, church groups, youth, families, seniors/older adults and special needs groups, about community days to help with outdoor restoration activities; reach multicultural groups through social media.
Skills and qualifications
must be a you between 15 and 30 years of age
strong communication and organizational skills;
previous experience with social media; Joomla or other content management systems, HTML; Adobe Creative Suite/Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator;
strong writing, verbal, and problem solving skills, good storytelling;
ability to work with a diversity of volunteers;
appreciation of the environment;
ability to work as part of a team and independently;
able to work from home and be able to attend virtual meetings while doing so.
Deliverable
· Provide feedback on their experience describing highlights of their accomplishments, what they learned, and suggest ways to improve the experience for the next Service Canada summer youth
Start date is expected to be July 26 with an end date of October 1. The hourly wage is $15.25 per hour; work-week is Monday to Friday.
